The loading sequence

How a wheelchair ride actually works

Most people have never seen this done and cannot picture it. Here is the whole thing.

01 We come to your door Your driver parks, walks up, and knocks. You do not have to watch for us from a window or come outside to meet the van.
02 The ramp comes down to ground level Our vans are rear entry, so the ramp meets the pavement with no step to climb. You roll on facing forward. There is no lift, no transfer, and no one picking you up.
03 Your chair locks to the floor Four securement straps anchor your chair to a track built into the floor. Then you get a lap and shoulder belt over the top of that. Same system every trip.
04 We walk you in at the other end The ramp comes down again and your driver takes you inside, to the right floor and the right waiting room, and stays until you are checked in.

That is the entire process. If you want to watch it before you book, there is a video in our gallery.

Equipment check

Will your chair fit in our vans

Short answer: probably yes. Pick what you use and see what happens on loading day.

What do you use?

If you are not sure whether your equipment will work, call us and describe it. We would rather answer that on the phone than have you guess.

Pricing

What wheelchair transportation costs

Three things set your rate: where we pick you up, where we drop you off, and the fact that wheelchair loading takes time that ambulatory service does not.

What sets your rate
Your pickup location Your destination Wheelchair loading time
What you get back One flat rate Quoted before you book, and no hidden fees. Anything extra, like wait time, is explained up front.
Flat rate, not metered You get a number before the trip, and anything extra, like wait time, is explained up front. No surge pricing. Private pay We accept cash, check, debit and credit cards, and FSA cards. Priced in the middle on purpose There are cheaper services that do not show up and premium services that cost far more than most families need. We sit between them. Waiting is optional If you want us to wait during a short appointment, that is available as an add on. If you would rather we come back, that is the standard round trip.

Questions about riding in your chair

The five things people ask us most before their first wheelchair ride.

No. You stay in your own chair from your front door to your destination and back. There is no transferring at any point.
Tell us the make and size when you book. Our rear entry ramps and floor track accommodate manual chairs, power chairs, and scooters, and knowing the dimensions ahead of time means we bring the right van and allow the right amount of time.
Yes. One additional family member or caregiver rides at no extra cost, including in the wheelchair accessible vans. Tell us when you book so we hold the seat.
Four straps anchor the chair to a track in the floor, and you wear a lap and shoulder belt on top of that. Both, every trip.
As early as you can manage, especially for standing appointments like dialysis. We do our best to accommodate same day requests, so call even if it is short notice.
